Georgia Byng on the Importance of literacy

In a recent interview by Huffington Post, Georgia Byng expressed her belief in the importance of literacy and reading with and for young children (and everyone else!).

Georgia said: “I’ve been writing children’s books all my life. It’s partly because I have a child inside me who needs entertaining, and partly because I want to help children to love reading. For I believe that a world filled with readers is a safer, happier world. Ignorance is dangerous…

For every child in the world, knowledge is power. Knowing things, being educated is the key to being able to harness ones power and so get a voice that is listened to. It is the key to prosperity. It is the key to deciphering what is really going on around us. With knowledge we can better invent, solve, create, make, maintain, fix, organise, philosophize, keep our minds healthy”

Interviews with amazing creative people

Whatever you do, it is good to be creative. It is a great feeling when you use your imagination to think your way out of problems or think up wonderful new things for the world to have.

Here on my website are interviews with people who are involved with creativity in art, writing, movies, music and in other creative ways too. I have just started putting these interviews up. They will show you a bit about how these people tick and how they got started. The interviews should show you that you can be creative in your life too.

Tiger by Henry HudsonThe first interview is with artist Henry Hudson.
He did this portrait of my daughter Tiger using plastercine.

I plan to do loads of interviews… with writers, of novels, poems, graphic novels, plays and screenplays, and actors, stunt artists, comedians, musicians, composers, song writers, and dancers too. I’ll talk to artists, sculptors, painters, illustrators, directors, of both film and theatre, film editors, casting directors, set designers, costume designers, makeup artists, photographers, film camera people, lighting designers, website designers, architects, garden designers and chefs. There will be a few other interviews, like an interview with the dog trainer who handled Lola and Charlie, the two pugs who were in the Molly Moon movie. I’d like to track down a reptile wrangler too.

I will also do interviews with some technical people who work in the creative world, gaffers, for instance, the electricians who make sure the lighting is right on a movie set or the sound recording people. I am going to do an interview with a plumber because it strikes me you have to be both knowledgeable and creative to work out what is wrong with the plumbing or heating in a house.

I’m also going to interview the brilliant hypnotist who I have been to four times.

In fact I am going to interview every single person in the world. There will be seven billion interviews. A lot of them will just be pictures of babies, as they don’t have much to say when they are interviewed.

I am interested in interviewing some of you too if you are doing interesting creative stuff. Whether its making sculptures made from plumbing pipes and bricks or poems written back to front in chocolate, whether your creative thing is something that ends up in pictures or words or music – however it comes out, I am interested. So please do get in touch via social media, facebook or the website if you are interested. And, if you are not a confident person and you are automatically thinking, “No one would be interested in my stuff,” please knock that thought out of your head and get in touch.

X

So for starters, here are a few interviews for you.

Special Halloween competition

Hello everybody. It’s competition time…..

Molly Moon Halloween competition

Do you want to win a signed copy of Molly Moon’s Incredible Book of Hypnotism and a hypnotic pendulum that you can wear around your neck? It’s always useful to have a pendulum for those moments when someone needs an urgent dose of hypnosis. All you have to do is use your imagination. And then type your answer and send it to me.

Here’s the thing. Petula has been sniffing around in the woods while Molly and Rocky are busy building a tree house. She comes face to face with a scary-looking, mad, wild cat.

This is where you have to make something up. What is the cat’s name?

Email your idea for this horrible cat’s name and I will pick the one that I think is the best. I know this is going to be a tricky competition as I am sure lots of brilliant ideas will come through to me. But only one person will win the prize.

If you are under 13 please ask your parent’s permission.

Then, email answers to: hypnotising@mollymoonsworld.com

Remember to say your name.

The competition will close the day after Halloween on Sunday 1st November 2015.

I can’t wait to see what you come up with

Good Luck!

Raffey Cassidy – An amazing talent

Raffey Cassidy photo

Have you seen the movie Tomorrowland? Raffey Cassidy was brilliant in it. She plays a robot girl who has a heart. I won’t tell you what happens but just that she is very believable and watchable and her final scene is very moving. She starred alongside George Clooney and was easily as good as him.

It will be interesting to see what she does next.

You will love Raffey in Molly Moon and the Incredible Book of Hypnotism, when you see it.

Some of you may have already seen the movie at a film festival, however, if you haven’t there will be announcements soon about this years impending release. August in America and October in the UK, other countries later this year.

If you are interested in hearing more about Raffey as Molly Moon, you can find an interview on the website and lots of behind the scenes pictures too.

Love
